Sensus Communis: the knowledge humans live by

The essence of knowledge is moral values. The virtue of wisdom is the value that makes life worth living. All knowledge of interest has some form of value. This is when knowledge becomes alive. When it becomes part of the living human being, not as something you remember, but something you live by. This is when knowledge becomes a formative force. The being preserve the wisdom because it has value of the future. As humans we live by the same knowledge and have the same values of existence. Sensus communis is this knowledge and now cultural power is able to abolish this knowledge.

The essence is values in life

Existential essentialism is about what is good in being. An essentialistic approach experience that something is better or of greater value then something else. Without essence the world becomes indifferent, empty, open, boundless, dynamic, complex and leveled. Human without essence is like a an empty pipe where the water flows through without friction.

Truth is not certainty

Existential essentialism is not about certainty about the external world, it is expressionism of what really is as a synthetic intuition of the external and internal world. Language construct certainty about the external world. Synthetic intuition express truth of the external and internal world. Look at Edvard Munchs paiting “Autumn Ploughing” 1919. This picture unfold the human soul and the farmers work to bring forth a healthy soil after harvest. It is not a certain picture of what has happen, but an expression of Munchs synthetic intuition. Munch is not only a spectator to the farmers work. He participate in the work bringing his platonic truth into the farmers field of ploughing.

To unfold essence

The essence of a phenomenon unfolds in real life. The essence of a face is experienced in the meeting. We are not able to express the essence of a face through verbal scientific language? We can express some characteristics, but never in such a way that capture what makes the face this face? A painting might unfold the essence. An unknown reader are able to experience the essence of a face through a painting. A great painting expresses a deep profound meaning of real life, as proven by expressionism. A verbal text might also unfold such a profound meaning, through a poem or an aphorism. Situations and phenomena are like faces. Expressionistic paintings and writing might unfold a profound essence of life.

synthetic- and analytic understanding

If a person has a bad behavior, you may understand his action by analyzing what he has done. You may give reasonable understand to how the behavior turned bad but still, you would never do the same. You would be a spectator giving analytical knowledge to the situation. A synthetic understanding would mean that you would be able to do the same as the other person. This is not only a question of analyzing the behavior but bringing aesthetic- and ethical reasoning into the understanding. A synthetic understanding is an physical engagement, a participation into the behavior. Human are not able to have a true synthetic understanding of bad behavior. Human can only have synthetic understanding of behavior we would be able to wholeheartedly imitate and improve. A synthetic understanding gives insight and not only analytical knowledge.

Dogma and Data

If knowledge is power it must be based on dogma and not data. Data dilute knowledge and turns it into information without a form. Knowledge based on data removes the idea of form or essence. Data is volatile and changing. This deformational knowledge is doxa. Knowledge as episteme must be based on human’s inner cognition. The experience of acknowledge a dogma is a synthesis of reasoning, emotions, moral and action.

Metaphor

A metaphor is an attempt to express a insight. Essential thoughts are verbalized by metaphors. A metaphor will never exist and have a content if it is not something real that it is trying to tell us. What it tries to portray is a core we are able to sight, but not see. We are not able to express this truth in words of direct correspondence, so we have to resort to images and fables. The more abstract a insight is, the more metaphorical is our language. No one has used metaphors better than Plato, but neither has anyone else struggled more to free one selves from this use.

Human recognition

The essence of human recognition is a sensation of knowing what a human is, when turning Others in to You. This is a holistic sensation of recognizing others existence. Recognition is not about rewarding or praising. This is just a kind of reinforcement that splits the human being into pieces of competences and turns the experience of recognition into manipulation. Recognition of existence is a fight on life and death. Recognition as reinforcement is a constant feeling of never being able to be good enough.
